This collection contains printed and audio-visual materials related to the New Student Programs at Iowa State University. The printed materials include orientation programs and handbooks, Orientation Committee meeting materials, summer orientation reports, and documents related to the Cyclone Aides. There is also a collected history of the program completed in 1997: "A history of new student orientation at Iowa State University," by Johna S. Sell. Freshman Days manuals (LD2546.F75x) are cataloged and available in the University Archives. The collection also contains audio-visual materials used during orientation presentations. The videos include vignettes performed by Cyclone Aides to present certain aspects of college life, faculty and administrator question and answer panels, and other welcoming presentations. Slide presentations used during orientation events are also part of this collection.

Freshman Day was first instituted at Iowa State College (University) during the fall quarter of 1926.
